Jerry and Robert are best friends. Robert is a publisher and Jerry is a literary agent. Robert is married to Emma but Jerry and Emma are having an affair. Robert knows about the affair but doesn't do anything about it. Or does he? What does he know? When did he know it? Why doesn't he do anything? What lies are Emma telling to cover up the affair? Who else is she lying to? How can Robert continue his friendship while sleeping with his wife?

In 1978 Harold Pinter wrote one his most complex and intense works: Betrayal. It is a vividly compelling and genuinely harrowing look at an affair between a British couple and the husband's best friend. Pinter brings out the complexities of this relationship and the deceptions that run through them. On top of these lies upon lies, Pinter adds another layer of revealing the story in reverse chronology. The play begins two years after the end of the affair and ends seven years earlier. What the audience will experience is a highly intense ride through emotional hell.
